Session 9 How to Finance Your Business
Question:
"Raising start-up money is one of the great hurdles in starting a business. Would you have any recommendations or some basic do's and don'ts as to how people should go about this great challenge?"
Rod Banks
Executive Vice President, City National Bank
Topics covered in this video:
starting a business, financing, loans, writing a business plan
Transcript:
First off, before you begin to think about getting your start-up money together, you need to have a business plan. And once you put the business plan together it will help you to determine how much money you need to start your business. Once you determine the amount, then you've got to decide: where is the best place to get it? In today's world it is very difficult to go to a commercial bank--the typical bank you see on the street-- for a start-up business type of loan.
A lot of first time entrepreneurs will start off by using their own personal savings or look to a friend or a relative to see if they can get a friendly partner in with them. Some people will look at putting a lien to some degree on their home. Because of the credit card boom, a lot of people today will take credit card solicitations that come out. And it's perfectly okay to take one of these low interest rate credit card offers if you manage it in a very responsible manner.

Lower Risks. Lower Risks. Most business experts agree that a low cost franchise operation has a lower risk of failure than an independent business. The statistics on this vary depending on the definition of failure. Whatever statistics are used, they consistently suggest that a low cost franchise is more likely to succeed than are independent businesses.
Group purchasing power. It is often possible to obtain lower-cost goods and supplies through the franchisor. The franchise cost can result from the group purchasing power of all franchises. To protect this benefit, most franchise cost agreements restrict the franchisee from purchasing goods and supplies through other sources.
Established product or service. A franchisor offers a product or service that has sold successfully. An independent business is based on both an untried idea and operation. Three factors will help you predict the potential success of a franchise. The first is the number of franchises that are in operation. The second predictor is how long the franchisor and its franchisees have been in operation. A third factor is the number of franchises that have failed, including those bought back by the franchisor.
Experience of franchisor. Antonio Gillespie.

Get $200,000 to $300,000 in cash and UNSECURED new business lines of credit by following a 4-step system.
Dear Entrepreneur
I want to introduce you to an amazing credit system that taught me where to get huge unsecured lines of credit.
This guide shows you where to get $200,000 to $300,000 in cash and UNSECURED new business lines of credit by following a
4-step system.
An unsecured business line of credit is the easiest short cut to getting money that you will ever find.
You will learn how to get money in the name of a business using any registered business entity, and stop using your personal name and social security number to apply for business credit.
The secret to successfully getting large amounts of business credit is to use stated income applications to qualify for money from many different lenders.
This system will show you exactly how to properly complete the stated income application process at each of the national lenders on this lenders list.
Business lines of credit come in the form of multi-year loans, convenient checks and business credit cards that offer cash advances that can be used anywhere.
Get the complete guide with workbook, lenders list, CD set and everything you need to get the money at:
http://businesscapitaltoday.com
This system has helped me tremendously, that' why I want to share what I've learned with you.

http://www.sitmeanssit.com Click yellow button to subscribe. Fred Hassen, CEO of Sit Means Sit Dog Training Company, is seen here working one of his dogs in a dog park. Sit Means Sit dog training franchise school has stayed on the cutting edge in this tough economy with a simple solution of providing a product that no one else can deliver.
Sit Means Sit Dog Training franchise has hundreds of videos that show their product demonstrated by people that have opened their businesses from very diverse backgrounds, and have skyrocketed to the heads of their profession in their community almost immediately. "Showing your product to potential franchise owners is what will always keep us a head of the curve, and the economy" Hassen says, "Because people will always invest in their pets and animals, and want to be sure that their hard earned money will get results, and that they will be able to maintain it." Hassen continued "Other company's can talk the talk, but you have to be able to also walk the walk, because today's consumer is very educated." Constantly putting hundreds of videos up that show their product, and demonstrating it in public formats, is what keeps the potential Sit Means Sit Franchise business owners looking more and more into the business opportunity every day. "Dog Training has to be quick, easy, transferrable, and pleasant to the eye to watch", and this strategy has and will continue to pay off in large dividends for Sit Means Sit Dog Training franchise business owners and their clients.

Session 9 How to Finance Your Business
Question:
"Are there any recommendations you would have for somebody looking to make a financial request to a financial institution?"
Rod Banks
Executive Vice President, City National Bank
Topics covered in this video:
Business loans, financing, banking, honesty
Transcript:
One of the best things a new entrepreneur can do is to think of their banker as a financial partner. Building a relationship with the bank, with the institution, with the individual is going to be the key. I would find someone who is really interested in your business: who will take the time, who will come out and take the tour and who will ask all the appropriate questions. Because if you think about it, this is the individual who is going to be your representative back to the bank to talk about your business.
Now on your end you should invest the proper time to build the relationship with that banker. Get to know them. Find out how long they have been with the bank, find out about their career and make sure that you stay in contact and build a relationship over time. And the last piece of advice I'd offer is that no matter what the information might be about your company, always share it. Bankers want to know as much as they can about your business. They don't like surprises. If you have bad news they would much rather you deliver it as opposed to having the bank hear about it second hand. So good communication with your banker will be one of the best pieces of advice I could give anybody starting a business.

In this business tv show, online marketing guru David Meerman Scott reveals what the most important elements of a website are and where the most attention should be focussed:
"I think there are three different focuses of websites and all three need to work together. But I think the most important element is the content and those three elements of a website are the content, the design and the technology that underlies it.
I think all three things are important, the technology is important, the design is important and the content is important. But ultimately the best websites are developed with content as the starting point. I always get a chuckle out of (inaudible) is given for the best books and the best magazine articles. Imagine if the (inaudible) was given instead to the best book cover or the best magazine article picture. They are not, they are given to the best content.
So I think the same thing applies to websites. The most important thing should be the content; the prizes should be given out for the best content because that is what people are looking for on sites. Driven once by content, with those other things being secondary but still very, very important."
